[00:52.17]Christmas is a very busy time for everyone.
[00:56.01]People send cards to all their relatives and friends.

[01:03.11]Everybody has a Christmas tree with coloured lights
[01:07.27]and lots of bright things on it.
[01:10.32]People buy presents for everyone in the family.
[01:13.80]They put them under the tree.
[01:17.04]In many countries,
[01:19.99]Christmas is one of the most important festivals of the year
[01:24.14]Christmas Day is 25th December.
[01:27.69]In some countries,
[01:30.33]Father Christmas brings presents to
[01:33.20]all good children on Christmas Eve.
[01:36.26]He rides through the sky with a big bag of presents.
[01:40.34]He can travel all over the world in one night.
[01:44.39]On that night,
[01:46.45]children are very excited and sometimes a bit naughty.
[01:50.71]Often parents say,
[01:54.05]"If you are naughty,
[01:56.40]Father Christmas might not come.
[01:59.35]Remember!He only comes to visit good children."
[02:03.61]That makes them quiet again!
[02:06.48]Before they go to bed,
[02:09.72]they leave something by the fire  for
[02:12.68]Father Christmas to eat and drink.
[02:15.55]Then they each put a stocking at the bottom of their beds
[02:19.60]When everybody has fallen asleep,
[02:22.63]Father Christmas comes down the chimney
[02:25.87]and puts presents into each stocking.
[02:28.82]In the bottom of the stocking,
[02:31.56]he puts an apple or an orange.
[02:34.72]Then he fills the stocking with toys and sweets.
[02:38.35]Children do their best to stay awaketo see Father Christmas
[02:43.08]but usually they fall asleep as soon as they are in bed.

[03:59.54]we always used to get our presents on 6th December,

[04:08.32]Rik:And our Father Christmas is called Saint Nicholas.
[04:12.68]He arrives on a boat from Spain,
[04:15.74]wearing a warm red coat.
[04:18.51]Then,he travels round the roofs of
[04:21.56]houses on a big white horse.
[04:24.31]He has a helper called Black Pete.
[04:28.07]Ben:Did you use to put a stocking on your bed?
[04:32.04]Rik:No,we didn't.
[04:34.18]We used to put our shoes by the fire.
[04:37.66]Like Father Christmas,
[04:40.71]Saint Nicholas comes down the chimney during the night
[04:44.19]and puts presents in our shoes.
[04:47.35]But we didn't use to leave food for him.
[04:50.40]We filled our shoes with straw and carrots for his horse
[04:55.58]Ben:Did you use to wake up early on 6th December?
[04:59.62]Rik:Yes,we did.
[05:01.58]As soon as we woke up,
[05:04.22]we used to run to the fire to look in our shoes.
