The Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in western China has drafted a pilot plan to offer subsidies for tourists to visit the region.
In a bid to revitalize its tourism industry, the local government in Xinjiang has promised a two million yuan subsidy, roughly 320,000 U.S. dollars, for the project. The fund offers each tourist 200 yuan in the form of traveling cards, to tourist groups of more than 16 people.
The subsidies will be conditional on the travelling route covering any two of Xinjiang's seven most popular scenic spots, or on travellers spending at least two nights in the region.
Tourism officials say procedures should also be simplified and standardized for the convenience and benefits of more travellers.
The officials hope the plan will not only promote the tourism market in Xinjiang, but also speed up the construction of the Tourist Distribution Centre of the Silk Road Economic Belt.
Xinjiang launched a scheme last year to attract tourists. The region received over 50 million tourists last year, with overall tourism revenues of 65 billion yuan, or almost 10 and a half billion U.S. Dollars.

China now has 15 high plateau airports, accounting for 36 percent of the world's total number of high plateau airports.
Last year, high plateau airports in China handled 59,000 flights and 6 million passengers, up around 20 percent from the previous year.
Unlike most ordinary flights, high plateau flights face more safety challenges, thus, standards should be established at the legislative level.
High plateau airports refer to those with an altitude above 2,400 meters. Airports located at altitudes between 1,500 meters and 2,400 meters are called plateau airports.
