college 的意思与用法

1. college 主要有两个意思：一是指高等专科学校或（独立的）学院，二是指综合性大学内部的学院。如：

She goes to the Teachers’ College. 她上师范学院。

There are many colleges at Harvard and Yale. 在哈佛和耶鲁大学有许多学院。

2. 在日常生活用语中，college 可用来泛指“大学”，此时其前通常不用冠词，指大学生活或大学期间。如：

I met him when I was at college. 我在大学时认识他的。

While at college, Delia wrote a novel. 上大学时，迪莉娅写了一部小说。

It quite out of the ordinary for a woman to go to college. 那时女人上大学是很不寻常的。

但是，若是指具体地指某所大学（即将其视为一个地点），则可连用冠词或其他限定词。如：

The college is taking on more staff. 这所大学将雇佣更多教学人员。

I went to the college to see Professor Taylor. 我到学院去找泰勒教授。

It’s only twenty minutes’ drive to our college. 到我们大学开车去只需20分钟。

比较：

I met her at college. 我上大学的时候认识她的。

I’ll meet you at the college. 我到学院来和你见面吧。
