1. nominate

vt.    任命;提名…为候选人;挑选;指定(时间、日期、名称等);

[例句]Practically every movie he made was nominated for an Oscar.

他执导的影片几乎每部都获得过奥斯卡奖提名。

2. noteworthy

adj.  值得注意的,显著的,重要的;

[例句]It is noteworthy that the programme has been shifted from its original August slot to July.

值得注意的是该节目已从原来8月份的档期换到了7月份。

3. notorious

adj.  臭名昭著的;声名狼藉的;臭名远扬的;恶名昭著;

[例句]She told us the story of one of Britain's most notorious country house murders.

她给我们讲述了英国最有名的一起乡村别墅谋杀案。

4. notwithstanding

prep.   尽管;虽然;

adv.    还是;尽管如此,仍然;

conj.   虽然,尽管;

[例句]He despised William Pitt, notwithstanding the similar views they both held.

尽管他和威廉·皮特看法相似,却瞧不起他。

5. nourish

vt.    滋养,施肥于;抚养,教养;怀抱(希望、怨恨);使健壮;

[例句]The food she eats nourishes both her and the baby.

9. oblige

10. obscure

[例句]The origin of the custom is obscure.

11. obsolete

adj.   废弃的;老式的,已过时的;[生]已废退的;

n.      废词;被废弃的事物;

vt.     淘汰;废弃;

[例句]So much equipment becomes obsolete almost as soon as it's made.

这么多设备几乎一生产出来就要被淘汰。

12. obstinate

adj.  顽固的;固执的;难于控制的;方头不劣;

[例句]He is obstinate and determined and will not give up.

他非常顽固,而且又铁了心,是不会放弃的。

13. occasion

n.      场合;机会,时机;理由;需要;

vt.     惹起,引起;

[例句]I often think fondly of an occasion some years ago at Covent Garden.

我时常愉快地回想起几年前在科文特花园的一个时刻。

14. occupy

vt.    占领;使用,住在…;使从事,使忙碌;任职;

[例句]There were over 40 tenants, all occupying one wing of the hospital.

15. occur

[例句]If headaches only occur at night, lack of fresh air and oxygen is often the cause.
