体坛英语新闻:Ronaldo returns to aid Corinthians to 2-1 victory
RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- After 16 rounds of not playing in the 2010 Brazilian Championship, Corinthians' star striker Ronaldo returned to action on Sunday at home to help Corinthians beat Vitoria 2-1.
"It was good to be back in a game. I am content with today's win. We have to start slowly, getting our rhythm back. I think that by Saturday, we should be in sync," said Ronaldo.
During the game, the striker touched the ball fifteen times. Unable to take any shots on goal, Ronaldo helped with two assists, leading to his team's victory.
In only the second minute of play, Ronaldo fell to the ground, giving the fans a scare. However, the striker revealed that nothing serious happened, he merely took a ball into his privates, knocking out his wind.
Long time friend and teammate Roberto Carlos congratulated Ronaldo in his long-awaited return. Carlos stated that it will take a while for the Ronaldo that scored three goals in first game returns, but with a little patience, the striker will be back in game shape in no time.
Corinthians is to celebrate their centennial year as a soccer team on September 1. The team returns to action against Ceara on September 7 in the 19th round of the Brazilian Championship.
