体坛英语新闻:Adriano confirms stays in Italy
RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- While on vacation in his native city of Rio de Janeiro, striker Adriano revealed on Wednesday his plans to remain with Italy's Roma FC. The news disappoints Brazilian teams such as Corinthians, Flamengo and Palmeiras.
Adriano made his announcement during the grand-opening of his social projected named Imperadores da Vila, or Emperors of Vila Cruzeiro, a slum in Rio de Janeiro where the athlete grew up. The social project envisions the promotion of sports within the slum.
The striker claimed that he is happy at his current team and that he has no plans of returning to Brazil to play in 2011. Adriano had a serious talk with Roma FC's president Rosella Sensi before embarking to Brazil. Sensi expressed her favoritism for Adriano, gratifying the player and seducing him to stick around for the next season.
Despite the sour news to Brazilian clubs, Adriano confirmed that when he does decide to return to Brazil, it will be with his favorite team Flamengo.
However, the striker criticized his former club for its disorganization and constant bickering among its administration.
In regard to Corinthians and Ronaldo's hope of receiving the striker, Adriano said that the reunion will have to wait for another day. Adriano reiterated his satisfaction with Roma and maintained that he will be there throughout 2011.
