体坛英语新闻:Uruguay's press hails soccer team's entrance to London Olympics
MONTEVIDEO, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Uruguayan press on Thursday celebrated the ticket of the national soccer team to the Olympic Games of London 2012, after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final phase of the South American Tournament hosted in Peru.
"London, the sky blue team goes there," sports daily El Observador headlined and said that "after 84 years the Uruguayan soccer returns to the Olympics."
Uruguay has won two gold medal at the Olympics one in 1924 and the other in 1928.
With the triumph over Argentina on Wednesday, Uruguay "assure one of the two placed for the Olympics" after "playing better than Argentina."
The daily La Diaria said that this ticket to the Olympics is added to the ticket won for the World Cup U-20 to be hosted this year in Colombia.
"Uruguay is the leader of the (south American) championship" with 10 points and on Saturday "it will continue winning, as it could become champion if this category, 30 years after its last triumph," La Diaria said.
The daily Ultimas Noticas headlined "Hello London" and said that Uruguay "was better in the march" and achieved "more than a deserved" result.
"The soccer of the Olympic Games will welcome a long-time absent soccer. And it could not have the king of the last two tournaments (Argentina)," daily El Pais said.
