国际英语新闻：Ecuadorian President denounces "coup attempt"

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a close ally of Correa, expressed his concern for the situation in Ecuador and said that he trusts Correa and " the Ecuadorian people to defeat this coup attempt."

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos announced his support to Correa and Ecuadorian government. He also summoned an urgent meeting of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).

Mexican Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Mexican government would contribute to all the efforts launched by the OAS and the Group of Rio to support the restoration of the internal order in Ecuador.

Chilean President Sebastian Pinera and the Peruvian government condemned the rebellion carried out in Ecuador.

Peru ordered to close its border with Ecuador, but President Alan Garcia expressed his rejection to the situation in Ecuador and announced that his government was coordinating with the UNASUR to support Ecuador.

The Bolivian, Nicaraguan, Cuban governments condemned the protests in Ecuador and urged the Latin American and world governments to express their solidarity with the democratic government of Ecuador.

Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo expressed his strongest condemn against the coup attempt in Ecuador, while Uruguayan Vice Foreign Minister Kintto Lucas said that Uruguayan President Jose Mujica expressed "all his support to President Correa."

Meanwhile, general secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS) Jose Miguel Insulza and UNASUR general secretary Nestor Kirchner expressed their rejections to the situation in Ecuador and expressed their support to president Correa.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday voiced "full support" for Ecuadorian President Correa, calling for a rapid and peaceful restoration of order in Ecuador.

"The United States deplores violence and lawlessness, and we express our full support for President Rafael Correa, and the institutions of democratic government in that country," Clinton said in a statement.

She urged all Ecuadorians to come together and work within the framework of Ecuador's democratic institutions to "reach a rapid and peaceful restoration of order," adding that the United States is following closely the events in Ecuador.
