ISLAMABAD, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 people were killed and 70 others injured in two suicide blasts that took place Thursday night at a shrine in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi.

The suicide attack took place at about 7:00 pm when two unidentified suicide bombers exploded themselves at a shrine named Abdullah Shah Ghazi in the Cliffton area of Karachi where hundreds of people were gathering inside for religious activities.

The first blast took place at the main entrance of the shrine while the second which followed shortly after took place inside the shrine near a place where people place shoes before entering the shrine, said eyewitnesses.

Sources said that one suicide bomber succeeded to enter the walk-through gate of the shrine and exploded the bomb stripped to his body. A police officer said that the second bomber entered the shrine after the first blast blew up the main gate.

Eyewitnesses said that the blasts had caused a stampede among the panicked crowds and four people were said to have been killed in the stampede.

Parts of the dead bodies are seen scattering all over the blast site, said one eyewitness.

Following the blasts, the rescue team has quickly arrived at the scene and police and rangers have cordoned off the area.

Dr Semi Jamal of Jinnah Hospital, a major hospital in Karachi which has admitted most of the injured people in the blasts, said that 6 dead bodies and 65 injured people have been brought to the hospital. "Many of the injured are in critical condition", she said, adding that women and children were among the injured.
