国际英语新闻:Obama promotes national security staff chief to Donilon's old post
WASHINGTON, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- The White House announced on Friday that President Barack Obama has appointed Chief of Staff of the National Security Staff Denis McDonough as assistant to the President and deputy national security advisor, taking over the position left behind by Tom Donilon, who moved up to become the new national security adviser.
Obama praised McDonough as a man with "remarkable intellect, irrepressible work ethic, and a sense of collegiality that has earned him the respect of his colleagues," and said he will be " indispensable" to the national security team.
McDonough served from September 2009 as chief of staff of the national security staff. Prior to working in the Obama administration, he was a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, a think tank.
Obama announced earlier this month that Donilon is to take over the job of national security adviser from James Jones by the end of this month.
