国际英语新闻:Newly elected Kyrgyz parliament may start work Friday: Otunbayeva
BISHKEK, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbayeva said Tuesday the newly elected Kyrgyz parliament could start work Friday and the president was preparing her address to the new parliament.
"I will outline my vision for our work in the coming period of our lives," Otunbayeva was quoted by Interfax as saying.
According to local reports, the new parliament would elect a prime minister by a majority vote in the coming days. The premier would govern the nation, while the president would act more as a figurehead.
On Monday, the Kyrgyz Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the final results of the Oct. 10 elections. Five parties won parliamentary seats, with the opposition Ata-Zhurt Party becoming the biggest winner, gaining 8.47 percent of the votes.
The Kyrgyz parliamentary elections formed the country's first parliamentary democracy after riots in April ended the presidency of Kurmanbek Bakiyev.
