国际英语新闻:Costa Rica's landslide death toll reaches 20
SAN JOSE, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) of Costa Rica said on Thursday that the number of deaths caused by a landslide in the west of San Jose reached 20.
The Red Cross continued its rescue work in the zone. And the rescuers were still looking for another 12 people reported as missing. The death toll is expected to increase.
The landslide occurred on Thursday morning in Pico Blanco Hill, west of San Jose, due to the pouring rains in the last days.
President of the National Emergency Commission Vanessa Rosales said that 34 districts were affected by the rains, with more than 600 people evacuated.
The Costa Rican government has launched a red alert in all the country and issued a National Emergency decree in order to aid the victims for the rain.
