SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Cisco Systems Inc. on Wednesday reported that its sales rose about 19 percent in the most recent quarter, slightly beating analysts' estimates.
In Cisco's 2011 fiscal first quarter ended on Oct. 30, the company posted revenue of 10.75 billion U.S. dollars, compared with 9.02 billion dollars in the same period a year earlier.
The world's largest networking equipment maker earned 1.9 billion dollars or 34 cents per share in the quarter, representing increases of 8 percent and 13.3 percent respectively year-on-year.
Excluding some costs, earnings per share for Cisco were 42 cents. According to Thomson Reuters, analysts on average predicted earnings of 40 cents a share on sales of 10.74 billion dollars.
"Cisco delivered solid financial results, during a challenging economic environment," John Chambers, the company's chief executive officer, said in a statement.
"While we have seen capital spending moderate in some areas of our business, our execution in the areas we can control and influence speak to the success and relevance of the company's strategy," he added.
