国际英语新闻：Palestinian diplomacy over recognition of independent state begins

Four Latin American countries, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Bolivia, have officially announced that they recognize an independent Palestinian state in the territories occupied by Israel in 1967 with east Jerusalem as its capital. The declarations angered Israel and the United States.

Israeli officials slammed the Latin American countries declarations and said that it is a violation of the peace treaties signed between Israel and the Palestinians, adding that the question of recognizing the borders of the Palestinian state "is part of the negotiations over permanent status issues."

Shaath said she expected recognition of all Latin American countries. Meanwhile, he rejected any Israeli or American pressure on the countries to prevent more recognition of an independent Palestinian state. "It is not a unilateral action," Shaath said.

The Palestinians have earlier announced that in case the United States vetoes the bill the Palestinians would file to the UN Security Council to gain a recognition of a Palestinian state, the Palestinians would have other options, referring to dissolving the PNA.

"In addition to the Latin American countries' recognition of a Palestinian state, we expect that European countries would carry out similar actions beginning with promoting the diplomatic Palestinian representations in those countries to the level of embassies," Shaath said.
