LONDON, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- The British government unveiled a series of measures on Wednesday aimed at boosting trade and investment to benefit the British businesses.

"Openness" lies at the heart of the Trade and Investment White Paper, which details guidance for the country to strengthen a multilateral trade system and maximize opportunities for British businesses to trade and invest.

Specifying advantages and disadvantages of Britain's business relationship with each of its major international partners, the White Paper said Britain should engage further with the developed world including the European Union and the United States, and expand collaboration with the emerging markets, especially China, India and Brazil, to benefit from their high-speed growth.

The White Paper introduces a new range of finance and insurance products for helping Britain's small and medium enterprises to export more goods overseas.

The document also underlines the British government's commitment to further open the country's market and build a better domestic environment to attract more foreign investment.

British Business Secretary Vince Cable said on Wednesday that Britain had "consumed too much and exported too little" in the last few decades - and with Germany now exporting over three times as much as Britain it was "vital to turn this around."

"This White Paper sets out an ambitious direction for the UK, it will guide the government's work on trade and investment," Cable said.
