国际英语新闻:U.S. Republican presidential candidate Romney wins second island caucuses
WASHINGTON, March 10 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has scored a second victory in GOP caucuses in an island territory, U.S. media reported Saturday.
After a win in Guam, Romney has won the Northern Mariana Islands caucuses early Saturday. Both territories are located on the other side of the International Date Line.
Romney won 87 percent of the votes in a non-binding preference poll conducted at the caucuses. Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum was a distant second with 6 percent, followed by former House speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Congressman Ron Paul, each receiving 3 percent.
According to the Saipan Tribune, a local newspaper, Romney's oldest son Matt visited Northern Mariana Islands to garner support for his father over the weekend.
Northern Mariana Islands has 9 delegates to the GOP convention. It was the second of four presidential contests slated for Saturday. The GOP presidential field will also face off in caucuses in Kansas and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
