Afghanistan and Pakistan have both voiced concern over more civilian deaths caused by western military operations. The president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai accused foreign troops of killing more than 50 Afghan civilians in recent days in what he called ‘indiscriminate military operations’. Pakistan has been moused of at least ten people were killed by rockets fired by US-led forces in the Ugbekistan region, close to the border. Bob Replate. reports.
NATO said it targeted dozens of insurgents who'd apparently entered Afghanistan from Pakistan. But a rocket hit a house on the Pakistani side in the tribal area of north Ugbekistan, all of the dead were reported to be from the same family. Victims of last year’s toxic waste scandal in Ivory Coast which killed 16 people have rejected the government's offer of compensation. Under the scheme the families of those who died when tons of poisonous wastes were dumped in Abidjan will get 200,000 dollars each and those who fell ill get smaller amounts. The rest of the 200 million dollars paid by the Dutch-based oil company Trafigura will go to the government. One of the victims Amai said the money going to them was not enough.

Union leaders in Nigeria have called off a four-day-old general strike calling in protest against the steep rise in the price of fuel. The European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana has described as constructive his talks with Iran’s top nuclear negotiator on ways to resume international talks on Iran’s nuclear program. Speaking after their meeting in the Portuguese capital Lisbon, Mr. Solana said he hoped for another round of discussions in three weeks time. The Iranian negotiator again said Iran wanted to settle the dispute with the West through diplomacy. From Lisbon, Alison Robert reports.
Iran’s top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani . has said his country is committed to working out how to deal with outstanding issues relating to its nuclear program. The idea, Mr. Ali Larijani said on Saturday was to decide within 60 days how to deal with the outstanding issues relating to its nuclear program. Western countries have been pushing for a third UN Security Council resolution on sanctions against Iran if it does not suspend its uranium enrichment program.

Islamists students in the Pakistani capital Islamabad have released nine people including six Chinese women they were abducted from an acupuncture clinic which they say was being used as a brothel. Earlier the students broke into the clinic and took people away to the red mosque, a center of radical Islamists preaching. The mosque's spokesman Abdula Shidgary said they were mindful of the good relations between China and Pakistan.

We do respect Pakistan and China's friendship but at the same time in the name of friendship I think that such kind of , can not be tolerated. So,we think that the government of China should ask them and should be held accountable why they are running such kind of business.

And residence in the Somali capital Mogadishu are preparing for second night on the curfew. On Friday night a number of explosions were heard shortly after the curfew came into effect, but there were no further disturbances. The spokesman for the interim Somali government described the curfew as a success and said it would continue until security was fully restored in Mogadishu.
