马云：贸易互利推动中马关系持续健康发展

Alibaba founder Jack Ma on Monday took on the role of conciliator during the inauguration of the tech giant’s Kuala Lumpur offices, calling for stronger trade and business ties to ease tensions between China and Malaysia that escalated following prime minister Mahathir Mohamad’s surprise electoral win last month.

周一，阿里巴巴创始人马云在阿里巴巴吉隆坡办公室开业仪式上扮演了调解人的角色，呼吁中国和马来西亚加强贸易和商业联系，以缓解两国之间的紧张关系。上月马哈蒂尔穆罕默德(Mahathir Mohamad)意外当选马来西亚总理后，马中两国间的紧张出现升级。

Mr Mahathir has vowed to review all Chinese projects and any “unequal treaties,” jeapordising Beijing’s relations with Malaysia that had flourished under former premier Najib Razak.

马哈蒂尔已发誓要复查所有中国项目和任何“不平等条约”，这危及到了中马关系——两国关系在马前总理纳吉布拉扎克(Najib Razak)任内曾得到蓬勃发展。

Mr Ma addressed worries over Sino-Malaysian relations directly during Alibaba’s ceremony. “Many people are worried about [this]…I am very confident in Malaysia[‘s] and China[‘s] relationship…This problem can be solved,” he said, underscoring that China is now Malaysia’s largest business partner.

马云在开业仪式上坦率地表达了对中马关系的担忧。他说：“很多人都在担心（这个）……我对马来西亚与中国的关系非常有信心……这个问题可以得到解决。”他同时强调中国现在是马来西亚最大的商业伙伴。

The Chinese billionaire added: “We should use trade as an ambassador to communicate, to exchange culture, to exchange respect…China and Malaysia should exchange trade as much as possible. Only by trade [can we] solve most of the problems and issues.”

这位中国亿万富翁还表示：“我们应该把贸易当作一位交流的大使，交流文化，交换尊重……中国和马来西亚应尽量多搞贸易交流。只有通过贸易，（我们才能）解决大部分问题和争议。”

These comments came as trade is yielding the exact opposite result for China and the US, which are on the brink of a trade war after President Donald Trump last week announced new US tariffs on $50 billion of Chinese imports and Beijing responded with 25 per cent tariffs of its own on US products worth $34 billion. China’s finance ministry also threatened to add a further $16 billion, targeting US energy exports.

在此番言论发表之际，贸易正给中国和美国带来完全相反的结果。随着美国总统唐纳德特朗普上周宣布对500亿美元中国产品征收新的关税，而北京方面以对价值340亿美元的美国产品征收25%关税作为回应，一场贸易大战一触即发。中国财政部还威胁要将另外160亿美元的美国产品纳入征税范围，此举瞄准美国能源出口。

Mr Ma met Mr Mahathir ahead of the inauguration of Alibaba’s offices - the first in South-east Asia for the tech giant - and went as far as saying that Malaysia’s multimedia super corridor, a special economic zone and high-tech business district championed by the prime minister more than two decades ago, inspired him to create his own ecommerce company.

阿里巴巴吉隆坡办公室是这家科技巨头在东南亚开设的首个办事处，马云在开业仪式举行前拜会了马哈蒂尔。马云甚至表示是马来西亚多媒体超级走廊——二十多年前在马哈蒂尔支持下成立的一个高科技商业区——启发他创建了自己的电子商务公司。
