LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- HBO's "Game of Thrones" and Amazon's "Fleabag" won top awards at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night, picking up outstanding drama series and outstanding comedy series, respectively.

"Game of Thrones," an American fantasy drama television series, is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin's series of fantasy novels. The eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" led the pack with 32 nominations this year but only earned two awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

The HBO epic series won the top drama award for the fourth time. Peter Dinklage won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for "Game of Thrones." It's also the actor's fourth Emmy victory for the role of Tyrion Lannister.

"Fleabag" dominated the comedy categories with four nods. "Fleabag"'s creator and writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge took home the prize for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing For a Comedy Series. Harry Bradbeer won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for "Fleabag."

"Fleagbag" is a British comedy-drama television show, featuring a dry-witted woman living in London, known only as Fleabag.

The 71st annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony was held at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles. It's an American award bestowed by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in recognition of excellence in American primetime television programming.
