国内英语新闻:Commentary: Abstaining from delirium over China's Huangyan Island to ensure Asia-Pacific pea

BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines' recent provocative moves against China's Huangyan Island and its unreasonable and unrealistic whims are an apparent effort to stir up unnecessary trouble.

Such moves as having the International Tribunal and the United Nations General Assembly intervene in the island dispute are apparently aimed at turning the situation into a complicated international issue. These attempts are delirious and must be stopped.

Experts believe that Manila's actions in the Huangyan Island area and the talk and speeches from some senior government officials about the island have a rooted, complex background.

A recent announcement by the United States to return to the Asia-Pacific region apparently stimulated the minds and attitudes of some countries in the region.

Instead of tackling their own domestic economic and social issues, these countries tend to covet other countries' land and their delirious attempts to abruptly seize territory grow fasts.

The ugliest way, among others, is to resort to foreign forces to stir up provocations and trump the so-called threats.

After the Cold War, the Asia-Pacific region has largely gotten rid of the threat of war and its vigor and vitality has grown. That has been especially true in recent years when the world has been facing an economic slowdown and the region has offered promise as a global growth engine.

However, it should be clear that most Asia-Pacific nations are still developing countries. Eliminating poverty, accelerating development, and improving their citizens' livelihoods are their tasks of priority.

The political and security circumstances in the Asia-Pacific are complicated. Working together to create and maintain neighborly friendliness and striving for social and economic development meets the common interests of the Asia-Pacific countries and is the common responsibility of the big Asia-Pacific family.

Facing various issues in the peripheral sea waters, China firmly safeguards its territorial sovereignty and maintains maximum restraint, holding that all the related parties should take concrete measures to ease the tension and properly resolve their disputes through negotiations.

Meanwhile, China hopes that the relevant countries will realize the truth and the situation, abstain from their fickle and delirious attempts to seize other countries' territory, and even more, not allow the situation to escalate by letting external forces "fish in troubled waters."
