国内英语新闻:Foundation urged to do more in children charity, civilian diplomacy
BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Jia Qinglin has urged the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) to contribute more to the country's unofficial diplomacy as well as the charity support for children.
Jia, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks Tuesday at a meeting to mark the 30th founding anniversary of the CSCLF.
The CSCLF, founded in 1982 in the name of former honorary president Soong Ching Ling, is a leading charity and folk exchange organization in China.
Describing Soong as a "great patriot, politician and social activist" who made outstanding contributions to world peace and the founding and development of New China, Jia praised the foundation's work in carrying on Soong's spirit by boosting the country's charity drive as well as civilian-level ties with other countries.
Jia, also chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, called upon the foundation to more actively participate in international nongovernmental affairs in order to promote China on the world stage while inviting the world to know China.
In addition, Jia urged the foundation to focus on charity work for children in the aspects of culture, education and science and technology to help ensure young people's healthy and all-around development.
Jia also urged the foundation to strengthen management on charity projects and funds in accordance with laws and regulations and promote its information transparency and credibility.
