国内英语新闻:German chancellor arrives in Beijing for official visit

BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Beijing on Thursday morning, kicking off a two-day official visit to China at the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.
Wen will hold talks with Merkel on Thursday morning. They will also co-chair the second round of Chinese-German intergovernmental consultations.
Merkel is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao, top legislator Wu Bangguo, Vice President Xi Jinping and Vice Premier Li Keqiang Thursday afternoon.
Besides Beijing, Wen will accompany Merkel to visit Tianjin, a municipality some 120 km away from Beijing.
It is Merkel's sixth visit to China since she took office in 2005.
