国内英语新闻:New rules target intentionally spreading venereal diseases
BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- A set of newly-revised measures on the management and prevention of venereal diseases will take effect on Jan, 1, stipulating that patients with infections take necessary precautions to prevent infecting others.
According to the measures released by the Ministry of Health, patients should not intentionally spread venereal diseases to other people, and those doing so will be held liable for civil compensation, which could result in paying for treatment of others.
Criminal responsibility shall be pursued for those whose behaviors cause serious consequences, said the measures.
The document also strengthens protection of patients with venereal diseases by stipulating that no group or individual should discriminate against patients and their relatives, and their information should be kept confidential.
