BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States should strengthen policy coordination during their respective reform and restructuring process, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Friday.

Xi made the comment in a meeting with special representative of U.S. President Barack Obama, Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, in Beijing.

Xi stressed the just concluded Third Plenary Session of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee mapped out an overall plan for comprehensively deepening reforms.

"China's comprehensive reform and opening-up will not only provide strong momentum to China's development, but also bring more new opportunities for China-U.S. economic cooperation and other countries in the world," Xi said.

By doing our own things well, China and the U.S., as the largest developing country and largest developed country, are making the biggest contribution to the world, Xi said.

"China will push forward reform with greater impetus and maintain the sustainable and healthy growth of the economy," Xi said.

"China hopes the U.S. advances restructuring, realizes fiscal stability and sustainability and ensures steady economic recovery and growth," Xi said.

China and the United States should strengthen policy coordination during their respective reform and restructuring process, expand mutual interests and explore new opportunities for cooperation by facilitating bilateral investment treaty negotiations, the president said.

He called on the two countries to enhance cooperation in international and regional affairs, promote regional cooperation and world prosperity in an open and inclusive manner.

China-U.S. relations have maintained a positive and stable development momentum. Both sides should continue to implement the important consensus reached between President Barack Obama and I, build a new type of major country relationship and keep high-level exchanges, Xi said.

Xi called on both sides to make the most of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED), China-U.S. High-level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange and China-U.S. Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade to promote bilateral ties towards greater progress.

Congratulating on the success of the plenum, Lew hailed it as an important step of China's reform and hoped to learn more about the "ambitious" agenda of reform.

The U.S. supports China in continuing market economy reform, which is important to the U.S. and the world, Lew said.

The U.S. is also pushing domestic reform and hopes to enhance communication and exchanges with China through S&ED and expand partnership in trade, energy, climate change and food security, Lew said.

This will not only be conducive to the Chinese and U.S. economies, but also the robust, sustainable and balanced growth of the world economy, Lew said, adding that the U.S. is willing to work with China to address global and regional challenges.
