国内英语新闻:Police chief ordered no unsafe factors in Beijing
BEIJING, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's police chief on Friday inspected security checkpoints set for the high profile Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Beijing and ordered no "unsafe factors" in the capital.
Police in Beijing and neighboring areas should strengthen security checks and "make utmost efforts to block unsafe factors outside the capital," said public security minister Guo Shengkun, who visited two checkpoints in Beijing and Hebei Province.
They must ensure that "all people, vehicles and materials entering Beijing are clean," Guo said.
The Beijing Municipal Security Bureau said Thursday it would mobilize 28,000 police officers and another 800,000 civilians each day to ensure security in the city during the week-long APEC meeting.
It said all police officers would be put on duty to crack down on crime and guard the city against terrorism. Motorcycle police, sniffer dogs, surveillance video and other security measures will also be stepped up in downtown areas.
