国内英语新闻:China hopes to boost security cooperation with Egypt: senior official

CAIRO, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to further cooperate with Egypt in security and law enforcement to better serve their national security respectively and maintain the regional stability, a visiting senior Chinese security official said in Cairo on Saturday.

Speaking highly of such cooperation, Meng Jianzhu, secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, said that China hopes to further facilitate the exchange of visits of law enforcement personnel between the two countries, with an aim to enhance their professional capabilities.

As Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy, Meng met with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab.

He said that China supports Egypt's efforts in maintaining national stability, developing economy and improving people's livelihood, noting that China is willing to strengthen mutual political trust with Egypt and deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, infrastructure, new energy, security and law enforcement.

Meng also conveyed President Xi and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang' s best regards to Sisi and Mahlab, saying that China always respects the Egyptian people's will to choose their own political system and development path.

For their parts, Sisi and Mahlab agreed with Meng on boosting bilateral security cooperation. They also stressed that Egypt is currently focusing on developing the economy and improving the people's livelihood, and thus welcome more Chinese companies to invest in Egypt and participate more in its development.

Durign Meng's visit to the country, he also held talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim.
