国内英语新闻:Stranded Chinese tourists return from Nepal
BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Over 2,000 Chinese tourists trapped in Kathmandu, Nepal, due to closure of the airport, had returned to China by Monday evening, thanks to the quick response by China's major airlines.
The last batch of more than 100 travelers on China Southern Airlines arrived in south China's Guangdong at 7:14 p.m. after Kathmandu airport resumed services on Saturday evening.
China Southern Airlines arranged a total of 8 flights carrying 868 passengers home between Saturday and Monday. Two other airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Air China, also took action to help bring the tourists home.
A crashed Turkish plane caused a four-day closure of Tribhuwan International Airport, Nepal's only international airport, on March 4. Approximately 40,000 passengers and 240 flights were affected before plane was removed from the runway.
