BEIJING, May 26 (Xinhua) -- A newly issued white paper reaffirmed the stance of China's armed forces to resolutely uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The armed forces will unswervingly adhere to the principle of the CPC's absolute leadership and uphold combat effectiveness as the sole and fundamental standard, according to the white paper issued Tuesday by the State Council Information Office.

The armed forces will carry on their glorious traditions and build themselves into a people's military that follows the CPC's commands, can fight and win, and boasts a fine style of work, says the paper.

The armed forces also perform the missions of safeguarding China's sovereignty, security and development interests, safeguarding the important period of strategic opportunities for China's development, and maintaining regional and world peace to provide a strong guarantee for completing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects and achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
