国内英语新闻:China provides humanitarian supplies, cash aid for quake-hit Afghanistan

KABUL, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday provided humanitarian supplies worth 10 million yuan (1.6 million U.S. dollars) and 1 million U.S. dollars in cash for Afghanistan's quake relief.

It was announced by Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao at a reception marking the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Afghanistan.

An earthquake of 7.5 magnitude struck Afghanistan on Oct. 26, killing at least 115 people and wounding hundreds of others.

Previously, the Red Cross Society of China had donated 100,000 U.S. dollars to Afghanistan as emergency assistance to help the quake-hit nation.

Li said China is willing to try its best to provide quake aid for Afghanistan within its capacities, believing that the Afghan people, under the leader of President Mahammad Ashraf Ghani, can overcome the aftermath of the disaster and rebuild their homes.

"The establishment of the diplomatic relations 60 years ago opened a new era for the friendly cooperation between the two countries," the Chinese vice president said.

"Since then, the two countries have relies on and helped each other in difficult times and joined hands to develop their countries in peace times."

The two countries have now established the strategic cooperation partnership and the friendship between the two peoples has become more solid, Li said.

Firmly following the right orientation of the development of biliteral ties by leaders of the two countries from the strategic level, upholding the five principles of peaceful coexistence, carrying out cooperation on the basis of win-win and collaborating closely in regional and international affairs to safeguard the interests of both countries and interests of developing countries have contributed to the healthy and steady development of the bilateral ties, the Chinese leader added.
