国内英语新闻:Chinese president suggests long-term, stable strategic partnership with Canada
ANTALYA, Turkey, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping suggested here Monday building a long-term, healthy and stable strategic partnership with Canada on the basis of mutual respect and win-win cooperation.
During a meeting here with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the ongoing Group of Twenty (G20) summit, Xi said both sides should dock their respective development strategies, expand comprehensive cooperation and strengthen cooperation in areas such as culture, education and tourism.
"Forty-five years ago, your father showed his extraordinary political foresight by making the historic decision to establish diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China. Forty-five years later, the field both China and Canada should and can cooperate in is broader," Xi told Trudeau.
China is ready to join hands with Canada to think creatively and move actively in order to tap more potential into bilateral cooperation and lift the practical cooperation between China and Canada to a higher level, Xi said.
China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Canada in multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations, G20 and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) so as to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large.
For his part, Trudeau said Canada hopes to deepen its friendly and cooperative ties with China in a comprehensive way.
Canada welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in areas such as infrastructure in Canada, and is ready to maintain close communication and coordination with China in global issues such as climate change.
The Chinese president arrived here on Saturday to attend this year's G20 summit.
During the first day's summit, Xi elaborated China's views on the world economic situation, raised proposals to address global challenges and urged sides to explore new impetus for global economic growth.
After Antalya, Xi will fly to Manila, the Philippines to attend the 23rd APEC meeting scheduled for Nov. 18-19.
