国内英语新闻:Russia hails China's first anti-terrorism law
MOSCOW, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Russia on Thursday welcomed the enactment of China's first anti-terrorism law, saying that it would create a solid legal framework to effectively combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
The law was guided by the fundamental rules and principles of international law, and took into account the experience of other countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Both Russia and China fell victim to terrorist activities. The Islamic State bombed a Russian passenger jet in Egypt on Oct. 31, killing all 224 people aboard, and a series of bloody terrorist attacks took place in China in the past few years.
The adoption of the law will strengthen Russia-China cooperation in counter-terrorism, said the statement.
China's National People's Congress on Sunday adopted the country's first counter-terrorism law, aimed at addressing terrorism at home and helping maintain world security.
China first launched the initiative to draft the law in 2011, and has sped up the pace since a series of deadly terror attacks hit China in recent years.
