国内英语新闻:Chinese envoy stresses fight against internet-aided terrorist groups
UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese envoy to the United Nations on Friday called for more attention to terrorist groups using the internet or social media to engage in terrorist activities.
These terrorist groups issue violent audio-visual products, spread extremist ideologies, recruit people, raise funds and plot terrorist activities, so measures should be taken to fight such groups, said Liu Jieyi, China's permanent representative to the UN, at a meeting of the General Assembly.
Countries should strengthen the regulations of the internet and relevant agencies of the United Nations should coordinate such efforts, he said.
The envoy also stressed the need to adhere to a unified standard to fight terrorism and "double standards should be avoided."
"We should never link terrorism with any specific ethnicity or religion," Liu added.
On the role of the UN, Liu said that the international community should give full play to the coordination and leading role of the United Nations and form a united front to fight terrorism.
"Only through effective coordination can we defeat terrorist groups," he said.
