国内英语新闻:China should promote popularization of science: political advisors
BEIJING, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Members with China's top political advisory body said more should be done to promote science.
The advisors made their suggestions during a conference on Thursday, which was presided over by Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
The advisors said the country has improved the way in which it spreads scientific knowledge over the past years, yet, science education is still lacking, and the public are not very science literate.
Some advisors said more science and technology museums should be built to encourage the public to take an interest.
Others argued that more financial support should be channeled to science education and scientists should be recruited as teachers to improve standards.
The advisors said IT could be used to make science education more engaging.
They believed the teaching of science should focus on teenagers and rural residents, and value the role of market and social organizations.?
