国内英语新闻:Xi urges rescue, follow-up efforts after fatal accident in E China
BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- President Xi Jinping on Thursday urged local authorities to step up rescue efforts, treatment and follow-up work after 67 people died in an accident at construction site.
The platform for a cooling tower under construction collapsed in Fengcheng, east China's Jiangxi Province, Thursday morning. Of the 70 people who were working at the site when the accident happened, 67 were killed and three injured as of 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
Xi ordered those involved to leave no stone unturned when investigating the accident.
A number of work safety accidents have occurred recently, and local governments must learn from these accidents and ensure any potential work safety issues are addressed, Xi stressed.
Efforts should be made to ensure the safety of people's lives and their property, Xi said.
Premier Li Keqiang also called for all out efforts to treat the injured.
Li said a work group from the State Council will be formed and led by the State Administration of Work Safety to provide guidance and help the rescue work.
Supervision should be strengthened and precautionary measures should be taken to prevent serious accidents from happening again, Li stressed.
