国内英语新闻:China donates electrical transformers to Syria for reconstruction process
LATAKIA, Syria, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- China has donated a total of 800 electrical power transformers and electric cables to Syrian government, aiming to help reconstruct damaged infrastructure in the war-torn country.
The official ceremony of receiving the donation was held at the port of the coastal city of Latakia on Wednesday. The shipment of donation arrived in the port a few days earlier.
Ma Xuliang, charge d'affaires at the Chinese embassy in Damascus, told Xinhua at the port that electrical supplies are important in improving the infrastructure in Syria.
"Actually, these aid supplies can play an important role in improving Syrian people's living conditions, infrastructure, and public service," he said.
He stressed that the recent contribution, which is the latest in a series of various Chinese assistance, is part of efforts to help in the reconstruction process in Syria.
"In the future, we'll also provide more humanitarian aid according to Syria's need and within our ability," Ma said.
For his part, Nidal Qarmoushi, the deputy electricity minister, told Xinhua that the electrical shipment assistance comes at an important time as it would support Syria's reconstruction process.
The electricity sector in Syria has been largely affected by the more than seven-year-long war in the country with recent estimates placing losses in the sector at four billion U.S. dollars.
