体坛英语新闻:Mears completes Australian gold rush at track cycling worlds
THE HAGUE, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The final day of the track cycling world championships resulted in two more gold medals for Australia on Sunday.
The Australians finished their gold rush with eight of the 19 possible first places in Apeldoorn.
On Sunday, Australians Leigh Howard and Cameron Meyer won the madison event before Martin Blaha and Jiri Hochmann from Czech Republic and Theo Bos and Peter Schep from host country The Netherlands.
After winning the sprint and the team sprint, Australian Anna Meares added her third gold medal on keirin. Olga Panarina from Belarus finished second and Clara Sanchez from France was third and Guo Shuang from China just fell out of the podium.
Defending champion Teun Mulder had to settle for a silver medal in the final of the men's 1km time trial. German Stefan Nimke was victorious in 1:00.793, Mulder finished second in 1:01.179 and Frenchman Franois Pervis became third. Nimke won the 1km TT for the third time after his wins in 2003 and 2009.
Tara Whitten from Canada clinched the victory in women's omnium ahead American Sarah Hammer and local favorite Kirsten Wild.
