体坛英语新闻:Douby inspires Xinjiang to beat Guangdong in Game 1 of CBA final
DONGGUAN, Guangdong Province, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Quincy Douby scored record-high 53 points to steer Xinjiang Guanghui to a 100-92 victory against defending champions Guangdong Hongyuan Friday in the first game of the 2010-2011 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league final.
Xinjiang, who finished top in the regular season, now lead 1-0 in the best-of-seven series and moved one step closer to their first-ever league title.
"It is very important for us to grasp the first, which will make us easy in the following ones," said Xinjiang coach Jiang Xingquan.
Douby hit five consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, making Guangdong's efforts all in vain.
"We are doing bad in the defense agaist Douby," said Guangdong's coach Li Chunjiang, who has guided the team to six CBA titles in seven years.
Guangdong had a comfortable lead in the first quarter thanks to the efforts of lastt season's MVP Zhu Fangyu, who scored 18 points.
"I've tried my best to help the team, but we had lapse in attention in defense and rebounds," said the 28-year old, who just came off an injury-riddled regular season.
Including Zhu's contribution, the top three scorers for Guangdong combined 60 points, a lackluster performance compared with Douby's 53.
"He had a great game," said Jiang.
