体坛英语新闻:Australian surfer Fitzgibbons wins her first world tour title
CANBERRA, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Australian surfer Sally Fitzgibbons claimed her first Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women's World Title, by winning the Rip Curl Pro surfing event in Victoria of Australia on Saturday.
According to Australia Associated Press, Fitzgibbons surfed superbly throughout Saturday, posting a 9.83 wave in her morning quarter-final against Hawaiian Coco Ho (14.53).
Fitzgibbons then knocked off star compatriot Stephanie Gilmore 18.37 to 12.60 in their semifinal.
In the decider, Fitzgibbons scored 16.77 to beat world rankings leader Carissa Moore of Hawaii (15.40).
"This is so overwhelming, this is amazing," Fitzgibbons told Australia Associated Press on Saturday.
"It's been a long journey to win - I can't feel my legs and my arms.
"It's extra-special (to win) in the 50th (anniversary of competition at Bells Beach)."
This is Fitzgibbons' third year on tour, and with Saturday's win, she now sits at ASP Women's World No. 2.
Meanwhile, the men also had their fourth round on Saturday and event favorites Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson and Jordy Smith all won through to the quarter-finals.
Organizers are hopeful of finishing the men's competition on Sunday at Bells.
