体坛英语新闻:Grandfather of Serbian soccer great kills father
BELGRADE, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Serbian soccer great Savo Milosevic has asked the often provocative Serbian media to show "consideration and humanity" in light of a family tragedy, reported the Serbian news agency Tanjug on Saturday.
According to police in Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Milosevic's grandfather Savo, after whom the soccer player is named, fatally shot and killed his father, Stevo, during a heated argument.
The elder 83-year-old Milosevic reportedly fired an M-48 sporting rifle, fatally wounding Stevo in the chest. The argument was apparently about unresolved property issues.
Milosevic, the veteran striker for Belgrade's Partisan and Aston Villa, asked the media "to spare the family and give it time to face the tragedy and even pull itself together", in a written request submitted to Tanjug.
During his 16-year career, Milosevic played for Partisan, Aston Villa, Real Zaragoza, Parma, Osasuna, finishing his professional career with Rubin Kazan.
He scored 206 goals in league play and 37 for Serbia internationally. He shared the UEFA Euro 2000 top scorer title.
