体坛英语新闻:Seedorf on target and sent off in Botafogo win
RIO DE JANEIRO, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Clarence Seedorf was sent off for just the second time in his career on Sunday after leading Botafogo to a 2-1 victory over Madureira in Brazil's Campeonato Carioca.
The Dutch midfielder was shown consecutive yellow cards in the 93rd minute after referee Philip Georg Bennett appeared to accuse the 36-year-old of time-wasting and then leaving the pitch outside the the designated substitution area.
Earlier, Seedorf provided the assist for Doria's first-half header with a curling free-kick before netting Botafogo's second goal with a low 67th-minute strike.
The former Ajax, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and AC Milan star did not hide his frustration at being shown his first red card since being sent off while playing for AC Milan in April 2006.
"He (the referee) told me to get off the pitch there. How can I not get off here?" Seedorf said after the match, pointing to the area where he left the field.
"I'm not going to say anymore right now. I don't understand what happened."
Botafogo football manager Anibal Rouxinol said the club would wait for the referee's report before deciding whether to appeal Seedorf's expulsion.
"We have to wait because we don't know the referee's take of the incident," Rouxinol said. "Everybody could see that he didn't deserve to be shown a red card. And we don't even know if he was actually sent off, because some people have said the referee changed his mind."
