国际英语新闻:224 injured in clashes in front of U.S. embassy in Cairo
CAIRO, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- At least 224 people were injured Thursday in clashes in front of the U.S. embassy in the Egyptian capital of Cairo, official news agency MENA reported, quoting the health ministry.
Clashes continue Thursday evening between protesters against a U.S. anti-Islam movie and the security forces in front of the embassy.
The protesters threw fire balls and stones at the security members, who responded with huge amount of tear gas and led to the chocking of some people, including even some passers-by.
The Egyptian Ambulance Authority said most of the injured people are being treated on the spot while several injured protesters and soldiers have been transferred to the neighboring governmental hospitals.
Ten ambulances were sent to the surrounding areas of the embassy and Tahrir Square.
The health ministry will deploy 42 ambulances Friday to secure the mosques where the Muslim Brotherhood called for protests to condemn an anti-Islam movie.
On Wednesday, the Egyptian government denounced the movie " Innocence of Muslims" as offensive to Prophet Mohammed and immoral, and assigned the Egyptian embassy in Washington to take necessary legal procedures against the filmmaker.
Google's branch in the Middle East decided to block the movie, MENA quoted head of communications and public affairs of the company Maha Abul-Enein as saying.
The insulting movie triggered a series of protests in the Arab world over the past two days.
