SANAA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- At least five protesters were wounded Friday when Yemeni security forces fired bullets and tear gas to discourage thousands of demonstrators from storming the U.S. embassy in Sanaa, witnesses said.

Five protesters were wounded, one of whom were hit with a gunshot in his head. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, according to several witnesses at the scene.

The protesters were enraged by a U.S.-made film they said ridiculing Muslim's Prophet Mohammed.

"Oh American, the army of Mohammed has returned," they chanted slogans as security forces fired heavy machine guns, rifles, tear gas and water cannons to try to disperse the protesters who attempted to storm the U.S. embassy for the second day.

On Thursday, three of protesters were shot dead in clashes with security forces inside and around the U.S. embassy after a mob of angry protesters stormed the embassy complex and replaced the flag of the United States with an Islamic flag.

In the wake of Thursday attack, Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi apologized to U.S. President Barack Obama for the " mob attack on the U.S. embassy," and ordered a probe into the incident.

The attack in Yemen came as part of the widespread anger across the Muslim world over the U.S. movie insulting Islam's Prophet Mohammed.

The U.S. embassy's diplomatic staff evacuated earlier Thursday to a safe place and nobody was harmed, according to the Yemeni interior ministry.
