ISTANBUL, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Around 3,000 Turkish people staged a protest in Istanbul on Friday against the verdict of the Egyptian court sentencing 529 people to death.

Protesters gathered in the yard of Fatih Mosque after the Friday prayers carrying banners against the executions. Protesters appealed Egyptian government to repeal the mass executions while condemning the public opinion to remain silent against the injustice.

Edanur Aytas, one of the protesters, criticized public opinion for not showing their reaction against the latest decision of the Egyptian court.

Appealing the Egyptian authorities, she said "We ask them, in the name of Allah to stop their wrongdoing."

Another protester Hilal Cakmak told Xinhua that the death sentence of the innocent people is not acceptable and said, "We demand from Egyptian government to withdraw their decision."

"To hang 529 people is a crime against humanity," said another demonstrator Aysel Bolat.

"We are standing by our brothers and sisters who are waiting their death penalty," said another protester Bulent Yazar.

A criminal court in Upper Egypt sentenced some 529 people to death over charges of assaulting police stations last year and killing one officer.
