BELGRADE, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Urgent humanitarian aid containing medical equipment, medicines, water filtration systems and reservoirs on Tuesday arrived at Belgrade airport to help Serbia coping with the consequences of the heavy floods that hit country in mid-May.

"Help will be distributed where it is needed as soon as today," said Serbia's health minister ZlatiborLoncar, at Belgrade airport where he personally thanked ambassadors of Russia and Norway, Alexander Chepurin and Nils RagnarKamsvag as well as the World Health Organization for donating equipment and medicines worth some 40,000 U.S. dollars.

He said the packages that arrived Tuesday at the Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade contain all that is necessary for 10,000 people to survive three months including first aid kits, medical equipment and medicines donated by Russia and water filtering systems and reservoirs from Norway.

Russian ambassador Alexander Chepurin announced that besides humanitarian aid, Russia will organize two concerts in Belgrade on June 9 and Novi Sad on June 10 to raise money for the people from the flooded areas.

Norwegian ambassador Nils RagnarKamsvag announced that two million euros will be at disposal to Serbia, as soon as it prepares concrete projects to repair flood damages.

Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Serbia Miljana Grbic said the organization she represents sent experts for disease prevention, public health and environment at the very beginning of the crisis, and will continue to provide what is necessary to prevent serious epidemics of diseases after waters completely retreat from the flooded areas.
