国际英语新闻:EU accord to bring positive result to Georgia: president
TBILISI, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili hailed an association agreement signed between Georgia and the EU on Friday as to bring positive result to the South Caucasus country.
"This agreement will bring great advantage to the citizens of our country and to our state," said Margvelashvili, who is attending an international security forum in Batumi.
"I also want to underline that from the moment of the signature of this agreement we have started to move toward a new goal and this goal is the fully-fledged membership of the European Union," he said.
Early on Friday, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili signed the EU association agreement in Brussels.
The Georgian government is preparing a celebration party later on Friday in the capital, where the president and the prime minister are going to address the nation about the EU accord.
Margvelashvili called Friday a special day for Georgia.
"Georgia is the part of the European culture naturally. The European values are naturally acceptable and shareable for us, and we have been not simply the part of this culture but its co-creators for centuries," he said.
