国际英语新闻:One Briton dies of suspected Ebola infection in Macedonia
SKOPJE, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- A Briton with Ebola symptoms died on Thursday at the Clinic of Infectious Diseases in Skopje.
It is not confirmed yet if the unnamed British man who was born in 1956 had been infected with the deadly Ebola virus or not, Dr. Jovanka Kostovaks of Macedonian Health Ministry's commission of infectious diseases said at a press conference.
The symptoms of the deceased man included having a fever, vomiting and internal bleeding as well as rapid deterioration of the body, which raised suspicions.
Samples from the man had been sent to Germany for tests to find out the cause of his death, Dr. Kostovska said.
The Briton arrived October 2 in Skopje and was rushed to hospital on Thursday where he passed away several hours later.
The hotel Super 8 where he stayed has been sealed off and the deceased man's travelling companion, another Briton, is quarantined.
"Medical authorities have informed us that up till now they cannot confirm whether the patient who died had Ebola. But as a precaution, based on the protocol of the World Health Organization, medical authorities are taking all measures as if the patient had been suffering from a highly infectious disease," a Macedonian government spokesman said.
