国际英语新闻:Singapore's train service resumed with reduced speeds after severe disruption
SINGAPORE, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's train service resumed on Wednesday with reduced speeds after a severe disruption during the evening peak hour on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
Engineers from LTA and the operator SMRT will conduct further investigations on Wednesday to determine the cause of the power trip, said LTA in the statement.
A faulty train could have triggered a power surge, which led to a shutdown of power across the entire North-South East-West Line MRT network on Tuesday evening.
Train services on the two crowded lines was disrupted for more than two hours, and it's estimated that more than 250,000 commuters may have been affected.
Singapore's Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew said he is " extremely concerned" with the disruption on his Facebook account on Tuesday evening.
Lui wrote that he felt sorry so many commuters experienced massive disruptions, and he has told LTA and SMRT to work through the night to fully recover train services and ensure that services run properly.
According to the Strait Times, the disruption occurred on Tuesday is the first time that Singapore's train services on both the North-South and East-West Lines were affected at the same time, possibly it was the worst MRT breakdown Singapore has experienced.
