国际英语新闻:Railway security high on EU transport ministers meeting agenda
BRUSSELS, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- European Union (EU) transport ministers will discuss railway security at a meeting in October, a spokesman with the European Commission said here on Monday.
"We have shown that we are politically willing to discuss potential legislative measures at the Transport Council in October," said spokesman Jakub Adamowicz, noting that the EU has set up a technical working group to look at the train safety in 2012.
"We have to take measures which are necessary but we do not want to overreact, which could turn out to be counter-productive, so we have to respect proportionality," he said.
A shooting took place Friday on a high-speed train between Paris and Amsterdam, injuring three people. Enditem
