国际英语新闻:South China province reports 11th Zika case
GUANGZHOU, April 10 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangdong Province reported a new Zika case Sunday, bringing the total number of imported infections in the province to 11.
A 7-year-old girl, a Venezuelan citizen, developed a skin rash after returning to her hometown in Enping City, Guangdong, on April 4 and tested positive for the virus on Thursday, the health and family planning commission of Guangdong said.
She is under observation at home and is in stable condition.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global emergency in early February amid a Zika outbreak in Central and South America. China has also been on alert as the warming weather may facilitate the spread of the mosquito-borne virus.
Symptoms of Zika infections include fever, joint pain, rash, conjunctivitis, headache and muscle pain. It is also a suspected cause of microcephaly in new-born babies.
