国际英语新闻:Bolsonaro's government announces priorities for first 100 days
RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian government of President Jair Bolsonaro on Wednesday announced its priorities for the first 100 days of administration.
Onyx Lorenzoni, the president's chief of staff, made an announcement in Brazil's capital city Brasilia during which he said priority measures will start to be implemented over the first 100 days of government, but goals will not necessarily be achieved by the end of this period.
The priority measures include acting to combat social security fraud and reduce the number of appointed positions in the government, setting up a new illiteracy reduction program and taking steps to increase vaccine coverage among children, among others.
Some of the announced measures have already been implemented, such as the decree to change regulations for possession of firearms, a controversial subject which was one of the president's campaign promises.
However, the government did not include the reform of the social security system in the priorities for the first months of the Bolsonaro administration. Lorenzoni said the government did not want to set a deadline for the reform at this time.
The social security system reform may be hard to approve, given the high level of polarization of the new Congress, which will take office in early February. The previous administration did not manage to submit it to vote.
The government did not offer details about what moves are to be made to achieve the listed goals.
